Summer Program on East Asian Development

Introduction
_________

• A 8-week, 9-credit-hour multi-country
study program in East Asia focused on the economic and politicaldevelopment of that region. It uses theories of the "East Asian developmental state" to investigate the economic and political development histories of Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and China.

Travel in and between South Korea, Japan, Taiwan,
Hong Kong, Macao, and the People's Republic of China.

GROUP

• Three days of sea travel by ship between Osaka, Japan, and Kaoshiung, Taiwan; classes at sea; day stops in two Okinawan islands.

• Travel by boat between South Korea and Japan, and from Hong Kong to up the Pearl River, and from Macao to Hong Kong; visit cities and industrial enterprises around China's Pearl River Delta, the world's emerging industrial center.

• Explore East Asia's great cities: Tokyo, Taipei, Hong Kong and Guangzhou with lectures hosted by local university faculty.

 

Non Georgia Tech students

• Non Georgia Tech students who are regular students at other universities are welcome to participate in the program. They will need, however, to be admitted to Georgia Tech as a transient or special student for the term that they will study abroad.
